Coastal Pond Supply also represents floating aerators for those who don't need the aesthetic look of a fountain. Aerators function to add oxygen to your pond or lake, a very important, sometimes forgotten, aspect of lake or pond management.

All aerators are:
Rugged, stainless steel Franklin Electric submersible motor
No long shafts to bend or become out of balance
No seals or bearings to maintain
Exclusive "Energy Saver" capacitor control box
1/2 hp. moves 350 g.p.m., 1 hp. moves 1,475 g.p.m.
1/2 hp. oxygen transfer rate of 2.2 lbs. per hp hour
1 hp. oxygen transfer rate of 4.0 lbs. per hp hour
Pumpage, Aeration, and Mix

The rapidly revolving propeller pumps a large column of water to a diffuser cone. When the column of water strikes the diffuser, a shearing effect occurs, breaking the column into micro droplets and exposing more water droplet surface area to the atmosphere. As the water returns to the "parent body", each droplet drags an additional amount of water with it, causing an "induced flow" effect, which in essence increases the surface area, exposing more water to the atmosphere.
Aeration is important in any lake or pond, the action of aeration not only supplying the lake or pond with more oxygen, but it keeps the pond cooler by letting the warmer water on the bottom rise to the top.
How do aerators and floating fountains differ?
With an aeration unit, the propeller unit pulls the lake water from the bottom of the pond, allowing recirculation of the pond or lake water to maximize aeration and oxygen transfer. Centrifugal units pull the water from the sides, never really mixing the water from the bottom of the pond or lake.
How Much do I need?
The question is always asked, "How much aeration do I need?" All ponds and situations are different, but as a general rule, approximately one-horsepower per surface acre is sufficient, depending on the Biochemical Oxygen Demand of a lake or pond.
Are there any differences between the more aesthetic fountains and the aerators as far as installation?
No. The recommended installation method is the same for both styles of fountains.
